3 rd Annual China Ozone Protection Awards

Vice President, Government & International Relations
Carrier Corporation
? Good morning ladies and gentlemen and honored guests.
? Carrier joins SEPA in congratulating the award winners this morning and we salute their leadership for ozone protection.
? We also commend SEPA and the government of China for its commitment to protecting the ozone layer through valuable events like this conference.
? Ozone protection remains a critical issue for our planet.
? Only through the strictest adherence or accelerated adoption of the Montreal Protocol will our protective shield above the Earth restore itself to a sustainable level.
? We know life on this planet only began after the ozone shield was in place.
? Through modern science, we have come to understand that chemicals like CFCs and HCFCs deplete the ozone layer, which has caused eco-system disruptions and increased rates of skin cancer and eye disease.
? But technology for non-ozone depleting alternatives and the steady will of nations is making a difference through the Montreal Protocol.
? Carrier has been pleased to play its role as the global leader in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry.
? Dr. Carrier invented modern air conditioning in 1902, so we like to think that innovation is in our genes.
? We were the first to phaseout of CFCs on a worldwide basis, including China, in 1994.
? And we have led our industry in new technologies for non-ozone depleting alternatives across the full spectrum of products well ahead of international laws.
? Public awareness and recognition for those frontrunners, like our award winners today, are critical steps on the road to ozone recovery.
? That is why, on behalf of Carrier's 45,000 worldwide employees and 2 ,0 00 associates in China, we are very pleased to renew our sponsorship for SEPA's Ozone Protection Awards Program for another 3 years so China's momentum for ozone protection can continue to accelerate.
? Thank you.
